Al-Hafiz Ibn Qudamah said in the introduction to his book Al-Muqni':
"This is a book on jurisprudence according to the method of Imam Abu Abdullah Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Hanbal Al-Shaybani, may Allah be pleased with him. I have endeavored to compile it, arrange it, condense it, and make it accessible, balancing between the short and the long, and gathering most of the rulings devoid of evidence and reasoning, so that its knowledge may be abundant, its size may be small, and it may be easy to memorize and understand. May it be 'sufficient' for its memorizers and beneficial for those who look into it. I ask Allah, the Most High, to fulfill our hopes, to improve our speech and deeds, and to make our efforts a means of drawing closer to Him, and beneficial through His mercy."
