A luxurious and limited edition facsimile of a historical manuscript of the book (Coquinaria Re De - Apicio - Apicius on the Art of Cooking), considered one of the oldest and most famous cookbooks in history. Its origins trace back to ancient Rome, with the original manuscript dating back to the 9th century AD and preserved in the Vatican Library. This edition is an accurate replica of the original manuscript housed in the Vatican Apostolic Library, bearing the reference number "1146 Lat rb'L".
This luxurious edition was released in France during the 20th century and is part of a series of releases aimed at collectors of rare books and academic institutions.
The book reveals Latin texts that mimic the appearance of old parchment, with gilded sections and prominent titles written in red ink, known as rubrication, a key feature of medieval manuscripts. The inner pages contain texts that appear to be ancient recipes and culinary preparations with words like Conditura and Coquatur, accurately reflecting the original content of the book.
One of the most notable features of this edition is the accompanying publisher's certificate, which confirms that this release was produced in a very limited edition of no more than 599 copies worldwide. The current copy is from the ultra-rare category of 99 copies designated for scientific institutions and bodies, bearing the serial number (29) XXIX in Roman numerals, adding exceptional collector's value.
The artwork has been appraised, according to the attached report, with a price ranging from $1500 to $2000, equivalent to approximately 5600 SAR to 7500 SAR.
