Guide to Raising Canary Birds at Home.. From A to Z! 🐤🎶
If you love birds and want a beautiful bird with a sweet voice to fill your home with life, the canary is the perfect choice! 🥰 But for it to live healthily and happily, you must provide it with a suitable environment and special care. Let's learn together how to raise it correctly! 👇
1- Choosing the Right Cage 🏠
✅ The cage must be spacious for the canary to move freely, preferably at least 60x40x50 cm.
✅ Use a cage with metal bars for ventilation, and avoid plastic as it may be unhealthy.
✅ Provide perches (wooden sticks) of varying thickness to maintain leg strength and prevent joint problems.
2- The Ideal Place to Put the Cage 📍
◾ Place it in a quiet area away from noise, air conditioners, and strong winds.
◾ It must be exposed to indirect sunlight for its health, or use a UV lamp if in a dark place.
◾ Avoid placing it in the kitchen as fumes and odors can harm its health.
3- Feeding the Canary Correctly 🍏🌿
🐤 Basic food: Canary seeds (millet) which you can find in bird shops.
🍃 Vegetables and fruits: Lettuce, arugula, apples, carrots (in moderation).
🥚 Calcium sources: Boiled eggshells or cuttlebone (essential for bone health).
🚫 Forbidden foods: Chocolate, avocado, onions, and fatty foods as they are toxic to canaries.
4- Water and Hygiene Care 💧🧼
✅ Provide clean drinking water daily and change it regularly.
✅ Provide a small bath dish 2-3 times a week, as they love to clean their feathers.
✅ Clean the cage weekly, and wash perches and dishes to prevent bacterial buildup.
5- Stimulating the Canary and Encouraging Singing 🎶
🎵 Provide a comfortable environment without disturbance, as it will not sing if stressed.
📻 You can play recorded canary sounds to encourage it to sing and interact.
👀 If you notice it is silent for a long time, check its food and environment, as it might have a health problem.
6- Canary Mating and Reproduction 🐣❤
✅ The mating season is in spring. You must provide a suitable nest and soft fibers for the female to build the nest.
✅ The male must be active and sing a lot to be ready for mating.
✅ The eggs hatch after about 14 days, and the mother needs special care during this period.
🔥 Golden Tip: Canaries are very sensitive birds. If you notice lethargy or prolonged silence, consult a veterinarian immediately to ensure it is in good health.
