Large and small leopard tortoises. The leopard tortoise (Stigmochelys pardalis) is a unique species of terrestrial tortoise and is the fourth largest tortoise species in the world. It is named for the distinctive patterns and spots on its shell that resemble a leopard's skin, and it is the only remaining member of its genus.
