A rare archaeological book published in 1826 AD, first original edition by the famous Scottish writer John Galt. Book title (The Last of the Lairds). First original edition (First Edition) and was published in Edinburgh by the famous publisher William Blackwood and publisher T. Cadell in London. Luxurious royal half-calf binding with hand-marbled and decorated paper on the edges, and the book spine is decorated with original gilt tooling. The book deals with a satirical and narrative social theme, focusing mainly on the significant changes that occurred in Scottish society at the beginning of the 19th century. The novel revolves around a fictional character named "Malachi Mailings", a laird living in a rural area in Scotland called "Oldbigging". This man represents the old class of economically failed landowners, who cling to their old influence despite the changing times and accumulating debts. The book contains 364 fully numbered pages for the novel in English. Excellent museum condition considering the book's age of 200 years. The paper is firm, the binding is original and sturdy, with some natural archaeological discolorations of old paper (foxing) that increase its historical value.
