By: Alaa Abu Anas Over the past period, I have received many inquiries from board members and executive directors about the Associations Support Fund, the most frequent of which was: Is our association eligible for support? The truth is that the mere existence of a license for the association does not mean its eligibility for support; The Associations Support Fund does not grant grants to all associations, but rather provides support and financing products according to specific controls and criteria, which vary depending on the announced product and its conditions. Before thinking about applying, I advise every association to ask itself: Are our regulatory data complete? Is governance applied? Are our financial statements up-to-date? Does the project align with the association's goals? And can we measure its impact and results? The application is submitted electronically through the Associations Support Fund portal by the authorized representative, after completing all data and attaching the required documents, taking into account that each product or grant has special conditions and a specific time period for application, which the fund announces within the grants calendar. By reviewing the fund's requirements, in addition to practical experience in the non-profit sector, the failure of many applications is not due to the weakness of the association, but rather due to applying before readiness is complete, or missing documents, or weak project preparation, or not meeting the specific conditions for the grant or financing product. Therefore, I advise every association not to aim to obtain the grant, but rather to aim to become an association qualified for support; An association that enjoys good governance, organized financial management, impactful programs, and complete and updated data will have a greater chance of benefiting from the Associations Support Fund's products than others. I conclude with a message I always believe in: Grants are not given only to associations that need support, but to associations that have proven their readiness and ability to manage support and achieve its impact. In a future article - God willing - I will discuss in detail the products of the Associations Support Fund, the conditions for each product, the application mechanism, and the most prominent observations that help associations improve the quality of their applications and increase their chances of acceptance.
