The idea might start with a sincere desire to bring family members together for good, strengthen their bonds, and organize acts of charity and solidarity.
But how does this desire transform from a fleeting family initiative into an organized entity with clear objectives and management that ensures its continuity?
This is where the importance of the family fund emerges.
The family fund is not just a financial account, nor an internal agreement among family members. Rather, it is a non-profit entity with a clear establishment and organizational path at the National Center for Non-Profit Sector Development.
The fund comes to enhance kinship, solidarity, and harmony, organize acts of charity among family members, and give these efforts a more organized and stable path than scattered individual initiatives.
And the family fund is not of one type.
According to the establishment guide, the fund can be in the name of the person himself, or in the name of an individual to whom the family belongs, or in a general name that serves one or more families.
This diversity is important because it means that the correct start is not just filling out the application, but choosing the type that suits the nature of the family and the purpose of the fund.
It is also important to know that the fund has its financial resources upon which it is based, including what family members allocate to it, periodic subscriptions, endowments and bequests, and the returns from investing its funds. It can also receive funds from outside family members according to controls and after the approval of the center.
Thus, the fund is based on organized resources that enhance its continuity, without its establishment imposing a financial obligation on the state.
As for the establishment process itself, it goes through several basic elements, including determining the type of fund, its headquarters and scope of work, the conditions for the executive director and subscriptions, inviting members, then ratification and sending the application.
And here a crucial point emerges:
The success of the fund does not begin when the registration certificate is issued.
Rather, it begins before that, with clarity of purpose, choosing the right people, understanding the nature of the fund, and building management capable of preserving the purpose for which it was established.
It is also important not to confuse the family fund with a family business.
A family business is related to business, ownership, management, and the continuity of activity across generations.
The family fund, on the other hand, is a non-profit entity with a different purpose and an independent establishment path at the National Center for Non-Profit Sector Development.
Both may exist in one family, but each has its own nature and role.
In my opinion, the most beautiful aspect of the family fund idea is that it transforms the desire for kinship and solidarity from scattered initiatives into organized work that preserves the purpose and enhances continuity.
Kinship is a great value, and when supported by management, organization, and governance, it transforms into an impact that can last for generations.
