The Book of Remembrance selected from the sayings of the best of mankind. - Authored by: Yahya bin Sharaf Al-Nawawi Al-Dimashqi. - A book on supplications and litanies. - This book compiles the selected remembrances, litanies, and supplications from the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ, most of which are narrated in the Six Books: Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi, Nasai, and Muhammad ibn Majah. Imam Al-Nawawi mentions the book from which the hadith was taken and the companion who narrated it. However, he intentionally omitted the chains of narration because the target reader is the worshipper, not the scholar. As stated in the introduction of the book: "So I intended to make this easier for those who desire it; I began compiling this book, summarizing the purposes of what I mentioned, approximately for those who are concerned, and I will omit the chains of narration in most of it for the reason I mentioned of preferring brevity, and because it is intended for worshippers, and they are not concerned with knowing the chains of narration, rather they dislike it except for the few, and because the purpose of it is to know the remembrances and act upon them and clarify their sources for those seeking guidance. And I will mention, God Almighty willing, instead of the chains of narration, what is more important than them, which is clarifying the authenticity of the hadith, whether it is good, weak, or rejected, as this is something that everyone needs to know except for a rare few among the hadith scholars. And this is the most important thing that must be taken care of, and what the student verifies from the reliable preservers and the skilled, trusted imams. And I will add to it, God willing, a collection of precious items from the science of hadith, the subtleties of jurisprudence, important rules, the purification of souls, and manners that are confirmed to be known by those who tread the path. And I will mention all that I mention, clarifying it so that it is easy to understand for the common people and the jurists." [2] [3] It includes very many chapters dealing with different and diverse topics, including remembrances for prayer, Hajj, fasting, Jihad, death, sleep, when in distress, on Eid, during an eclipse, for rain, visiting the sick, entering the mosque, wearing clothes, entering the toilet, morning and evening remembrances, when riding a mount or a ship, and others, remembrances of intercourse, greetings, marriage, and other topics. - Imam Al-Nawawi's book was well-received. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar explained most of its hadith and narrated them in a thousand lessons (Imali Ibn Hajar), and Muhammad ibn Allān Al-Siddiqi authored an explanation titled (Al-Futuhat Al-Rabbaniyah 'ala Al-Adhkar Al-Nawawiyah) and in its beginning, he summarized Imali Ibn Hajar. The book has wide circulation in the Islamic world to this day, and it has been accepted by most Muslims regardless of their sects and orientations. It is relied upon by the Sufis and accepted by the Salafis.
