The الجمهور (scholars) relied on the hadith of Abu Masoud Al-Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace be upon him, (forbade the price of a dog, the bride price of a prostitute, and the fee of a sorcerer).
Accordingly, taking money in exchange for selling a dog is considered a corrupt and religiously disapproved earning. For more clarification and detail, you can refer to the website of Sheikh Ibn Baz for rulings related to prohibited financial transactions.
